About Treatment
Unfortunately, stress in the world is an ongoing nugget of life. Most people come to us when existing solutions are not remedying the problem causing stress. Getting stuck with one way of thinking or behaving can become problematic if those actions no longer work. It can be hard to figure out ways to change and new ways of coping. How we handle change and stress through our thinking, choices, and behavior are keys to managing what life throws at us.
(CBT) approaches help to reevaluate our thinking and learn more about our habitual behaviors. You can learn how to better manage your responses – inside and out.
Creative arts therapies offer a powerful alternative when words alone aren't enough. For children and adolescents, feelings can't always be immediately identified or articulated — young people respond well to arts therapies because they are given developmentally appropriate tools to communicate. Through art, life stories are shared, processed, and developed. Empowered with a greater sense of achievement through metaphor and creation, young people can feel seen and understood.
For adults, creative arts therapies offer a different kind of access to inner experience — bypassing the pressure to "explain" and allowing imagery, color, and making to surface what talk alone sometimes cannot. Many adults find it a surprisingly effective way to process grief, identity, transitions, and longstanding emotional patterns.
Arts therapies can be especially effective for those with sensory sensitivities, helping to open new modes of communication and expression at any age.
DBT was originally developed for adults and is highly effective across all ages. It helps people build skills to tolerate and regulate intense emotions through self-awareness and more effective communication — the kind of extreme reactions that can disrupt relationships and daily functioning.
Young people often experience BIG feelings that feel all-or-nothing. DBT helps them recognize that choices are not so black and white — there are many shades of gray in between to find ease in everyday life.
For adults, DBT is particularly valuable for managing emotional reactivity, improving relationships, and navigating situations that feel overwhelming or stuck.
Play Therapy is designed specifically for children and younger adolescents.
Play therapy builds on the natural propensity of the child to imagine and communicate through creative narratives. Within the safe and accepting environment cultivated by the therapist, young people use toys, games, storytelling, and puppets to express feelings and thoughts about distressing events, relationships, or even wishful fantasies of their imagined solutions. It is a developmentally appropriate way for children to process what they may not yet have the words to say.
Experiences of loss, grief, illness, or abuse can pervade anyone's world — child or adult. These experiences, often categorized as trauma, can threaten a person's fundamental sense of safety and trust. Trauma-informed intervention can aid in recovery, helping these experiences become more manageable and less prominent in a person's core identity. We can't erase what happened, but trauma-informed care helps alleviate its pain so it no longer stands in the way of moving forward.
For younger clients, we also help the caring adults in their lives better understand trauma responses and support positive healing at home.
How it Works
Marygrace will help you connect with one of our experienced therapists. Usually, the first therapy session can be scheduled within a week's time. The therapist will meet with you to learn more about you — or about your child, if you are seeking support for a young person.
Our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and trauma-informed care. This foundation applies to clients of all ages.
For adult clients: Sessions are collaborative, confidential, and tailored to your specific goals — whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, a life transition, relationship challenges, or simply a sense that something isn't working. Our clinicians bring warmth, expertise, and a non-judgmental approach to every session.
For younger clients: Our therapists are skilled at engaging children and adolescents in ways that feel natural and safe. Using creative, expressive approaches alongside talk-based methods, they make it easy for young people to open up about feelings and experiences that might otherwise feel overwhelming. Most of our younger clients wish they had therapy more than once a week! We work to diminish any stigma around "therapy" and show that caring for your mental health is just another part of taking good care of yourself.
For adult clients: Therapy is a confidential space. Sessions are between you and your therapist, and that privacy is fundamental to the work.
For parents of younger clients: We understand how concerned you are about your child. After every three sessions, there is a 30-minute family meeting during your child's appointment time. This is an opportunity for the child and therapist to share updates on the emotions uncovered and the solutions being developed. It is important that caregivers are part of this growth process. You are also welcome to contact your child's therapist at any time if you have concerns to share.
We would love to! A team approach means that all members work toward a united goal. With your permission, we will communicate openly with the other clinicians, educators, or providers involved in your care — or your child's care.
